Kloster Maulbronn (Maulbronn Monastery) on Saturday, 14 July 2018

Dear members and guests,

Please join us for a fascinating trip back into the Middle Ages as we visit the World Cultural Heritage site, the Kloster Maulbronn (Maulbronn Monastery). This is the most fully preserved Monastery ensemble in Europe north of the Alps. Founded by Cistercians around the year 1140, the monastery contains the first gothic buildings built in Germany. It was a Monastery for 400 years until the Reformation, and then became a protestant theology school. Johannes Kepler, Friedrich Hölderlin and Hermann Hesse were students there. A protestant boarding school exists there to this day.

On Saturday, July 14, 2018 we will meet at 14:00 at the "i-Punkt" by the information center in the monastery courtyard. Beginning at 14:30 we will dive into the life of the medieval monks as we enjoy a special English language tour focusing on daily life in the monastery. The tour will last a little longer than one hour. Following the tour we will gather in one of the monastery rooms where we will enjoy a "Vesper" meal consisting of fresh meat and cheese platters with bread, wine and water. Our English guide will join us at our "Vesper" and regale us with more tales of medieval life, as well as answer our questions. The program will conclude around 17:00. Those who wish can look around some more or go to one of the restaurants in the courtyard for coffee, drinks, cake or ice cream.

The cost for this event is € 20 for members and € 25 for non-members. This includes entry fee, special experience tour and meal with drinks. You need not pay in advance. We will collect money on site. Cancellations after Wednesday, July 11 will be charged by the club for the missed meal.

The number of participants is limited to 50 maximum, so don't wait to register - participation is on a first-come-first-served base - you won't want to miss this special outing!

Best regards,
