Stuttgart after WW II on Saturday, 21 May 2016

Dear Members and Guests,

you might know that Stuttgart was heavily destroyed after WW II. Are you interested to learn about how it was rebuilt ? We'd like to invite you to join us on Saturday, May 21, for our outing "Stuttgart after WW II".

During WWII, Stuttgart was attacked in 53 air raids, leaving the city in 5 Million cubic meter of debris - 45% of the city was destroyed.
A member of the Stuttgart Stadtmuseum, Dr. Manfred Schmid, will join us to tell us how Stuttgart dealt with this situation.
We'll visit Stuttgart's rubble hill "Birkenkopf" aka "Monte Scherbelino", and, after lunch, we'll walk over to the "Lapidarium", a small hidden gem in Stuttgart-Süd(South), where artworks of all kinds are presented in a renaissance-style garden. Many of these artworks were found in the debris, were rescued and are now on display at the Lapidarium.

09:45 - 10:00- Meet at Birkenkopf Bus Station / parking
10:00 - 11:00- Birkenkopf - guided walk with Dr. Schmid / in English
11:32 - Bus 92 from Birkenkopf to exit "Feuersee"
12:00 - 14:00- Lunch at Restaurant "Brauerei Wirtshaus Sanwald"
14:30 -15:30- Lapidarium (guided tours 1 English/1 German)

Cost: 10 € per person, lunch/drinks extra.
