Altes Schloss on Saturday, 28 March 2015

Dear Members and Guests:
Please join us as we journey back in time to the beginnings of Stuttgart at our March Annual Membership Meeting:

The Origins of Stuttgart -

A look underneath the Old Castle

We will tour excavations in the cellars which have exposed foundations of the first castle on this site. While we are in the vaulted cellars we will also have time to look at the special exhibit "Glass from 4 Millenia", 4000 years of glassmaking. Don't miss this special treat!

We will meet on:
Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 14.45 hours sharp
in the courtyard of the Old Castle
next to the mounted statue of Duke Eberhard I.

The tours will begin at 15.10 hours. For our members, the museum admission and tour are free. Cost for guests will be € 5.

Following our visit - not in but under the museum - we will walk next door to the Alte Kanzlei Restaurant at 17.00 hours. The Old Chancellery was the building where the Duke's Privy Council met and the scribes conducted the official business of the court. We will go upstairs to our private rooms where we will conduct our own official business - our Annual General Meeting. The meeting will be short and guests are most welcome. We will have a good time and promise not to bore you!

After business comes pleasure. We will enjoy a meal of leafy green salad garnished with apple slices and croutons, followed by medallions of beef and pork in a mushroom cream sauce with butter Spätzle. A vegetarian main course is available, please request with reservation.
Dinner Cost for you will be € 25.00. Drinks, after-dinner coffee and optional dessert are extra. Please pay the restaurant staff individually before you leave the restaurant.

As a special after-dinner treat, our president Scott Beard will present interesting details about Daily Life in the Old Castle 400 Years Ago, drawn from research he did with original manuscripts in the Württemberg State Archives. This short presentation will conclude the day, and we promise to be done no later than 20.30. You can of course stay later and chat, reflecting back on a unique program filled with insights on days gone by in Stuttgart and the Duchy of Württemberg.

Best regards,
