A Streetcar named Nostalgia - on Saturday, May 8, 2010

Dear members and friends,

www.strassenbahnwelt.com

Did you know that Stuttgart is not only the birthplace of the automobile but that streetcars have run the streets since 1868? Due to this long tradition and Swabian engineering knowledge Stuttgart`s streetcars have been the pace-setters in design and technology over the years. So it is no wonder that there is a large community of streetcar enthusiasts who collect and restore the cars and everything connected to this kind of transportation. In the summer of 2009 the entire collection of more than 40 trains and cars was moved in to the newly renovated streetcar depot, which is an interesting brick stone structure built in 1929 and is now the "Straßenbahnwelt Stuttgart" (Streetcar world).

On Saturday, May 8th, 2010 our Club will visit the museum and we would like to invite you to join us for this event. We will meet at 15:30 hours at the entrance. The address is:
Strassenbahnwelt Stuttgart, Veilbrunnenweg 3, 70372 Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. The entrance fee will be paid by the club.

And this is how you get to the museum:
By car: the museum is right opposite to the Volksfest area at the corner of Mecedesstrasse/Veielbrunnenweg. There is sufficient parking available in the courtyard of the museum and the streets around.
By U/S-Bahn: U1 and U2, Stop Mercedesstrasse (5 min walk to the museum).
S1, S2, S3, Stop Bad Cannstatt Bahnhof (also 5 min walk).

We are going to have a tour through the museum in two groups (English and German) led by expert guides who will not only explain history and technical aspects but who also are going to share anecdotes with us pertaining to this métier. And if you then get infected by the streetcar virus you will find lots of souvenirs in the museum store.

After the tour we will have dinner together in the Hilton Garden Inn at the Stuttgart Neckarpark, Mercedesstr. 75, Phone 0711-90055-0.
It is 5 min by car or a 15 min walk from the museum and located right in the heart of the Stuttgart Sports center: on the left you see the Porsche Arena and on the right is the Mercedes Benz Soccer Stadium. Fittingly to the sporty environment we will have a buffet with hearty but healthy food:
Mediterranean starters, crispy salads, soup, then meat, fish and turkey as main dishes and, last but not least, a variety of delicious desserts. The price is € 26, drinks are extra. We are sure this will be another highlight of our Club events which combines historical information, good food and pleasurable get together. So don`t miss it!
